Time: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Charlotte Donovan is Uillinn’s first Artist-in-Residence: Learning and Engagement. Her project ‘[un-]intentional moments’ offers an open invitation to everyone to create their own handmade boat artwork as part of an ongoing collective collaboration. The project is a response to the Uillinn exhibition ‘Coming Home: Art and the Great Hunger’ which runs until 13 October 2018.
Visitors to Uillinn, local artists, communities, groups and schools have all been involved. The project title refers to Charlotte’s own art practice: based on a considered and developed approach of interactions and engagements – which can be accidental but never lacking in attention.
As they make their boat, each person is asked to consider: ‘If I had a boat… where would I go? who would I take? and what would I pack?.’ Issues are explored – past, present and future: emigration and immigration, hope and fear, living and loss, autonomy and vulnerability, power and dispossession.
This installation specially for Culture Night will show the work in progress, as well as offering the opportunity for people to create their own boat to add to the growing collection. Materials will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own.
