Regal Cinema Embraces Culture Night
Time: 9:00pm - 11:00pm
Phone: 024 91624
The newly refurbished Regal Cinema will host a celebration of Youghal’s cinema and filmmaking heritage with a special screening of Moby Dick, filmed in the town in 1954.
Youghal’s harbour and surrounding areas were transformed to resemble the whaling town of New Bedford in Massachusetts for Irish/american Director John Huston’s film adaption of Herman Melville’s classic 19th century novel.
The Regal Cinema, built in 1936, played host to the film’s Director John Huston after each days filming around the town who used it to review the reels.
Local historian Micheal Hackett will tell stories from that eventful summer and Liam Burke will showcase an incredible selection of photographs his father James Burke took during that time.
Enjoy a chance to hear more stories of the incredible summer with a glass of wine before or after the screening in the Regal Wine bar & Café.
