Info

An outdoor event at the back of O’Donovan’s Hotel (outside Molly’s Wine Bar & Café) in Clonakilty featuring Irish music, folk-blues, and poets, writers, storytellers. There will be brief instrumental trad and blues sessions as well as spoken word against a background of music and an open mic.

DeBarra’s Spoken Word in Clonakilty has an eight-year history of spoken word (poetry, comedy, storytelling) and music at the back of DeBarra’s Folk Club (and since 2020, also on Zoom see ). For Culture Night 2021, a band of experienced and innovative trad and blues-rock-folk musicians will play a number of short instrumental sessions, featuring Sam and Thaddeus Uí Bhuachalla on harp, guitars, oud, Pat Barrett on double bass, and guitarist/poet/songwriter/vocalist Paul McMahon who will also be spearheading a bluesy rock set. Between 6:30 and 9 PM-ish, a raft of spoken word artists will perform with or without musical accompaniment. Passers-by can request a spot in the limelight for themselves as part of the Covid-regulated open mic with plenty of sanitization and social distancing.
They may sing, they may dance, they may speak. Clonakilty residents and visitors will be entertained with live music and word culture at its best and most spontaneous and joyous. An ongoing (Irish) music session with brief bursts of words and song, straight from the heart.
