Mitchelstown Writers’ Group hold this event every year for Cork County Council’s Culture Night. It is held in the beautiful and atmospheric Kingston College Chapel, made available to the group by the kindness of Rev. Tom Sherlock. Members of the Writers’ group will read a selection of their work, which is varied and interesting. The programme will include Short Stories, Memoir pieces of times and places past, accounts of personal experiences of travel and hobbies along with some informative items on activities such as bee-keeping. Poetry will also be heard with selections from the poets in the group.

Mitchelstown Writers’ Group has been in existence for over twelve years. We meet fortnightly, on Friday morning from 10.30 – 12.00. Our meetings take place in Mitchelstown Library at Sutton Court. Over the past six years, we have published three compilations of our work: the first, in 2014 was titled ‘Mitchelstown Miscellany’. The second, in 2016 was ‘Another Mitchelstown Miscellany’ and our latest publication was ‘Memories’ which appeared in September 2018. All three were warmly received and sold out quickly. There are copies held in Mitchelstown Library. These books were launched at Kingston College Chapel and music was provided by local performers. Last year ‘Memories’ was launched by journalist Ralph Riegel of Independent Newspapers. The local musicians who participated were well-known traditional players Eoghan and Luca O’Sullivan, balladeer Mike Treacy and harpist Noreen Hellen. Mitchelstown Writers’ Group welcomes new members and will undoubtedly produce more books in the future, in which we look forward to featuring new ideas and fresh inspiration.
